Great Pictures

If you think taking a good selfie is hard, imagine working for five years to get one picture! That's exactly what Joe Broyles did, and his patience and hard work paid off. He has been trying to capture the exact moment a jet breaks the sound barrier, and this weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia, he did it. A jet breaks the sound barrier when it hits a speed of 766 mph. The jet in Mr. Broyles' picture is a F-18 Super Hornet 2. The vapor cone lasts for a fraction of a second, so it is a very hard picture to get! I am interested in this story because it combines science and a great example of persistence. For almost 5 years Joe Broyles was unsuccessful, but he didn't quit and ended up getting a picture that has been seen around the world.

Speaking of selfies, here is one that's out of this universe. It's a satellite taking a selfie, but that's not all... look who's photo-bombing! A comet!! Read all about it here!
